This event WILL sell out - only 20 spots remain for the Arkansas Secretary of State and Arkansas Governor candidate debates on June 26 in Eureka Springs. Secretary of State candidates will debate at 11 a.m. and Gubernatorial candidates will debate at 1 p.m.

Cost is $50 per person for two debates and lunch. Purchase tickets at https://arkansaspress.org/product/day-of-debates/

The Day of Debates is hosted by Arkansas Press Association as part of the 2026 APA Convention.

Scott Loftis, owner of the Carroll County News and Eureka Springs Times-Echo, has purchased the 135-year-old Marshall Mountain Wave from CherryRoad Media, effective today.

Founded in 1891, the newspaper had been owned by CherryRoad Media since 2021, and was previously owned by Dale and Jane Estis.

“I believe Marshall and all of Searcy County deserve a quality newspaper that is a reflection of the community it serves," Loftis said. "My mission is to provide that kind of newspaper to this community. We want to share the good news that happens here, and we want to be a newspaper of record that tells people what their government is doing. More than anything, we want to be a newspaper that people in this community know they can trust. That takes time, hard work and diligence, and that's what we promise."

APA served as the broker for the buyer and the seller.

“I want to thank the APA and especially executive director Ashley Kemp Wimberley for helping make this happen,” Loftis said. “We are blessed to have an association and a director who serve all of our members and are constantly working on behalf of our industry.”

Alliance of Area Business Publisher's 2025 Journalist of the Year Mark Friedman recently received more accolades — two Gold awards for Best Scoop and Best Investigative Reporting, the latest of many for the Arkansas Business senior editor.
