The scariest sentence in contractor sales? 👻
“I need to talk it over with my wife first.”
Your comfort advisor leaves, and the real sales conversation happens without them. The spouse who wasn’t there asks “so what did he say?” All they have to go on is a half-remembered price and your follow-up email.
That email is doing your selling, and most teams send a generic “just checking in” two days later.
Here’s how to send one that actually closes, in about 60 seconds:
1️⃣ Record the in-home visit (with the homeowner’s OK) using your phone or a transcription app
2️⃣ Paste the transcript into ChatGPT or Claude
3️⃣ Use this prompt:
“Write a follow-up email from me to this homeowner. Write it so someone who wasn’t at the appointment could read it and understand the decision. Recap the problem in the homeowner’s own words, explain each option and price in plain English, answer anything they seemed unsure about, and end with one clear next step.”
4️⃣ Read it, fix anything that sounds off and send it before you leave the driveway.
Bonus: ask for a 2-sentence text version too. That’s the one they’ll forward to their spouse.
Now the person who wasn’t in the room hears your whole pitch, and “let me talk it over” gets a lot less scary.
