Facebook just reminded me of this really special experience.

I took this photo 10 years ago. It shows Brian Haynes (left) with his brother Warren Haynes (Gov't Mule, Allman Brothers Band) onstage at an all-star concert and rally for Brian Haynes for Asheville City Council.

10 years ago, I worked with the Brian Haynes campaign for Asheville City Council - which he won, if your not local to Asheville 🙂

I also was the designated photo/video professional for this very grassroots campaign. This unique experience of working with Brian and my other fellow community members helping to create and grow a better vision of what’s possible for our community was extremely rewarding and inspiring. I think back on this time fondly, and now I regularly see Brian at my son’s school when he’s there to pick up his grandkids. Our children being among some of the newest members of this great community we have had the honor to serve in our own different ways.

This experience also feels especially significant as a reminder of seeing what is possible when we all work together towards a better world. Especially on a personal/local level. We all have a voice and we all play a role in building our communities. I hope we as a people will only grow to feel more empowered to share our voice and to feel more compassion and understanding towards one another for a better future for us all.

This wasn’t the only time I’ve had the opportunity to bring my media and marketing skills to a meaningful campaign, but it WAS the first - and I will forever be grateful for the experience.

Here's an NPR Tiny Desk submission video I filmed just over a year ago for an extremely talented artist Kelly Morris (KELLY) that gained over 20k views across platforms!

We have been working on a documentary (in progress) sharing some of the countless stories from our Western North Carolina community in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

We are excited to share that a portion of this documentary will debut at SOULSHINE, a special hurricane benefit concert presented by Dave Matthews Band and Warren Haynes at Madison Square Garden in NYC!
