Think using an unlicensed drone operator saves your business money? Think again....
If you are using drones for roofing inspections, construction progress photos, or marketing updates, you MUST use a licensed FAA Part 107 pilot.
The FAA has heavily increased penalties, and the consequences for cutting corners are massive.
Here is what construction, roofing, and all companies operating in the United States need to know:
- Your business is liable: The FAA explicitly states they can fine your company directly—even if you didn’t know the operator was unlicensed.
- Up to $75,000 per violation: Civil penalties have scaled significantly. A single illegal flight can result in a fine that completely wipes out your project's profit margin.
- Criminal risks: Severe or reckless violations can carry criminal fines up to $250,000 and potential jail time.
Protect your business, your clients, and your company's reputation. Always verify that your drone pilot holds a current FAA Part 107 certificate before they launch over a job site. Kurt is certified and fully insured to operate drones for commercial work and we do the work under the brand "Drone Video Omaha." Visit our website to learn more: https://dronevideoomaha.com/

Bucket trucks. Blue sky. A crew doing work most people never notice.
Spent the morning at Benson Park shooting aerial footage for a utility construction client. It's fascinating to watch these guys operate way up, handling the infrastructure that keeps Omaha connected.
Called in on short notice. Checked the FAA app for clear airspace. Got the shots I needed and made it back to my car just before the rain hit. That's the job.
If your company, nonprofit, or event needs professional drone video, let's talk.
One quick note worth stressing. In the United States, anyone flying a drone for commercial purposes is required to hold an FAA Part 107 certification. Hiring an uncertified pilot can put you and your project in real legal trouble. I'm FAA Part 107 certified and fully insured.

Drop a message or give me a call. Happy to talk through what you're trying to capture. - Kurt

Stopped by the old office at the amazing Image Arts Building today to say hi to Troy over at 92 West and John at . I miss working around those guys and the rest of the creative agency crowd that calls that building "home."
Working from home has a lot of advantages, but one thing I have had to be intentional about is getting out and seeing people face-to-face. There is nothing that replaces a real handshake or a hug and a few minutes of actual conversation with people you enjoy. This morning reminded me of that.
Thanks for the laughs and the few minutes of your day, guys. It meant a lot.
If we know each other and have not caught up in a while, let's get a coffee on the calendar. I mean that.

Proud to be the Marketing & PR sponsor for this amazing classic film event. Twice a year my friend Bruce Crawford organizes a screening of a classic film and brings in an actor or someone associated with the movie. This time it’s Ann-Margret and they’re featuring Bye Bye Birdie. This should be another spectacular event, with proceeds supporting Douglas County Historical Society. ❤️🎥🎬

We’re officially launching Drone Video Omaha!
If you’ve ever thought, “We should get drone footage of this place,” you’re probably right. Aerial video and photos can show the full scale of a building, jobsite, campus, or landscape in a way ground-level shots simply can’t. It makes your website stronger, your social content more interesting, and your marketing feel more professional.
The difference is how it’s done. Omaha Drone Video is operated by an FAA Part 107-certified, insured pilot, which means your project is handled the right way. We plan flights around airspace rules, weather, and real-world safety, and we capture clean, steady footage without cutting corners or putting your team, your property, or the public at risk.
If you’re ready for aerial photos, video, or both, send a message and tell us the address and what you’re hoping to capture. We’ll follow up with a simple plan, timeline, and estimate.

Drone Video Omaha delivers FAA-certified, insured aerial photos and video for businesses and real estate. Fast quotes, safe flights.

Mission accomplished. 👨‍✈️🛫🚁
This morning I passed the FAA Part 107 Small UAS exam and am now officially certified as a drone pilot. The preparation for this test was pretty intense, but I’m glad I put in the time. I scored a 92 percent.
More and more people have been asking me to shoot drone photos and videos for their companies, so getting certified was the right step to stay compliant and do things the proper way.

Proof that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks.

Some projects feel less like client work and more like watching a good neighbor thrive.

I’ve been working with Home Standards Inspection Services on their marketing since 2008, and in that time they’ve grown into the largest home inspection company in eastern Nebraska. It’s been fun to see their success and be just a small part of the journey.

This month, they’re growing again by adding two new services: termite inspections and sewer line scoping. Family owned, local, and genuinely devoted to their clients—exactly the kind of business I’m proud to stand behind.

Fifteen years ago today, I built my first professional WordPress website. Hard to believe how fast the time has gone.

What started as an experiment quickly became the standard. Today, 100% of the websites I build run on WordPress, giving clients sites that are flexible, powerful, and built to grow with them. Here’s to the next fifteen.
