Believe it or not, people don’t often ask me for general social media advice. Usually they’re asking about a specific thing. But recently, on a girls trip, someone asked — “if you were just starting out on social and wanted to grow your audience, what advice would you give?”

First of all, I am so impressed that she asked! Not googling “how to go viral.” Not following blanket advice from some mega influencer. Asking real people who are actually in it.

We love to see it.

Here’s what we told her:

🔸Commit to what’s doable. It doesn’t have to be every day, but showing up consistently over time is what actually moves the needle.

🔸Get crystal clear on who you’re talking to. And who you’re not. Content gets so much easier when you know exactly who you’re making it for.

🔸Show real humans — including yourself. People connect with people, not logos.

🔸Engage with other people’s content. Social media is a two way street. Don’t forget to be social!

No shortcuts. No silver bullets. But with a focus on quality and intention, you can build an audience that will change your business and your life.

I’ve been going to Rockland my whole life, but somehow had never been to Bixby before??? Well I finally had the chance to go, and I knew I was in for a treat, but I did not expect to walk away with a social media lesson 🫠

We thoroughly enjoyed every single one. Obviously.

People who said they didn’t like dark chocolate? Surprised by how much they enjoyed these! Same with the milk chocolate folks.

And yet — there wasn’t one unanimous favorite.

We spend so much time trying to be the chocolate that everyone likes.

Approachable. Inoffensive. Easy to digest.

But that’s not how it works!! Your people aren’t looking for the crowd favorite — they’re looking for the one that makes them go “wait, more of that.”

So show up as the weird funky chocolate. The ones who get it will GET IT.

And you want the ones who get it 🫶

PS go to if you’re in the area!

Howwww is it already June?!

TBH I used to kind of brush June off because it wasn’t my birthday month, and it was really true summer.

But turns out June has its own kind of magic ✨

I’ll be the first to tell you social media isn’t for everyone or every business.

One of the questions I always ask before someone commits to showing up online is: why should someone follow you beyond what you sell?

Maybe you’re offering entertainment. Maybe you’re sharing expertise. Maybe you’re giving people a behind the scenes look at your world. There are a lot of right answers — but you have to have your answer.

And here’s the thing nobody talks about enough: creating content gets so much easier when you’re not putting on an act.

When you’re leveraging real moments from your everyday life — and connecting them back to your business, your industry, your values — it stops feeling like a performance. It starts feeling like just... sharing.

I heard something recently that stopped me in my tracks:
“The first step to being successful on social is living a life you love.”

That hit. Because it’s true.

For me it’s the garden. My dogs. Time with friends and family. Discovering new places, trying new food. Those things make my life feel rich — and they make showing up online feel easy, because I’m not manufacturing content. I’m just sharing what’s already there.

So if social feels hard right now — I’d gently ask: is it the posting that’s the problem? Or is it that you’re not sure what’s worth sharing?

Because I bet your life has more in it than you think. 🧡
