When education was the focus and helping kids find a brighter future was the goal… it sounded like a WIN-WIN. So, mpiTOO jumped at the chance to help this nonprofit promote its "Sip. Paint. Mix. Vibe. With a Purpose" event.

Closely aligned with Durham Public Schools (DPS), Alternative Career Pathways (ACP) is a nonprofit organization run by Kristina Isaac. In her words: “Many times, kids need advice and counsel from people in the REAL world… particularly when a 4-year university or 2-year college isn’t right for them! Helping them realize they have ' alternatives' is my mission.”

Selecting mpiTOO as an agency partner to manage marketing logistics allowed Kristina to focus on what she does best – creating an event atmosphere that screamed SUCCESS.
Playing to our strength, we partnered with OUTFRONT Media and ReCity Durham to garner larger-than-life “AWARENESS” in the local vicinity of the event space. We also expanded their reach with strategically timed social media posts that coincided with the well-placed billboard on the Durham Freeway, custom-branded specialty items, and PR as the event date drew closer.

ACP is located at the ReCity campus on Broadway Street in Durham, which also hosted the event. Learn more about Alternative Career Pathways and their training, certification, and scholarship programs that help young adults from high school to age 25 to find their way to success. www.acp4u.com

Angling for Donors?

Fishing and fundraising have a lot in common.

Fishing requires a lot of knowledge about where to fish, what to use for bait, and when to show up.

If fish could be influenced by email, digital ads, and social media, that would be a much more enjoyable sport. But how about a “catch” of over $33,000?

We recently had the privilege of working on such a project for Do It 4 W Foundation (https://www.doit4w.org/), a local foundation that awards scholarships to graduating high school students in North Carolina.

“We are a small foundation with a clear mission, but we needed to grow our audience. mpiTOO was the perfect fit," said Jordan Hudson.

When we were retained, Do It 4 W Foundation had 189 people in its database. Those email addresses had been collected over the past 7 years but were rarely used.
We clearly needed to expand the pool of potential donors. And we needed to be clear on purpose. What metrics would we use to measure your success? For DI4W, we wanted to raise awareness of their biggest fundraising event of the year: a 4-on-4 basketball tournament held in early March.

Our plan consisted of purchasing a list of potential donors, scheduling emails with increasing frequency, and coordinating organic and targeted paid social ads. Meta allows you to upload the list to the Business Suite and then serve ads to those for whom it can find a match or a look-alike match based on the list's demographics.

For DI4W, we started three months prior to their tournament with 5,000 purchased names. At the end of the campaign, there were 686 prospects in their CRM, and the email open rate remained at about 30%.

"They went above and beyond to help promote our biggest fundraiser of the year. The proof was in the results,” said Jordan.

As in our fishing analogy, our "where" was defined by social media and the purchased list; our "what" was the effort to fund scholarships; and our "when" was the basketball tournament.

All in all, it was a successful outing. This year's event sold out, and they raised more than $33,000, allowing them to give larger scholarships than in previous years

If you could use some help attracting new donors, send us a DM and we will help you cast a wider net!

Photography: Stock, AI, or Custom? Myth vs. Reality.

Myth: Buying stock photography is an affordable way to get high-quality images for your website, brochures, or annual reports. Generative A.I. photographs are so easy. Custom photography is too expensive.

Reality: While stock photographs are better than A.I. generated images, they can still feel detached from local reality. And while A.I.-generated images may be cheaper than stock or real photographs, they can't really represent you with authenticity.

When we talk to our nonprofit clients, they want authentic images that represent their local mission and values.

Our most recent example is The Fox Family Foundation in Durham, North Carolina, which supports community organizations in arts and culture, education, health, and human services. Their reputation is built on the legacy of Dr. Frances Hill Fox, and her independent spirit and pragmatic approach. They hired mpiTOO to produce photographs illustrating the mission and vision of its grantees for their website.

Whether it's the smiling face of a young person learning woodworking skills at Bull City Woodshop or that of a grown man sorting kids' clothing at Note in the Pocket, A.I. just can't compete. Authentic photography might require more planning, but it's a good investment. Most photographers overdeliver, providing hundreds of images that will stand the test of time, because they truly represent you and your mission.
