📍S.R. 46 in Dearborn/Ripley Co.
⚠️ UPDATE: Operations will now begin Tuesday, May 26.

On or after Wednesday, May 20, crews will begin chip seal operations on S.R. 46 between S.R. 101 near Penntown and S.R. 1 near Saint Leon. S.R. 46 will be temporarily closed while work is in progress. Access will be maintained for local traffic only. Chip seal operations are expected to take up to three days, weather permitting. UPDATE: Closure planned on County Road 80 over I-74 in Decatur County

DECATUR COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces an upcoming closure on County Road 80 over I-74 as part of the current I-74 rehabilitation project in Decatur County.

On or after Monday, June 1, crews will close C.R. 80 to complete bridge deck overlay, bridge approach rehabilitation, and railing installation work. C.R. 80 is expected to reopen in late July, weather permitting.

The Jefferson County IN Sheriff’s Office is preliminarily notifying the community, in the interest of transparency, of an in custody death that occurred at the Jefferson County IN Jail on May 19, 2026.

Inmate Kimberly Earl passed away while incarcerated at the Jefferson County IN Jail. As is standard protocol in incidents of this nature, the Indiana State Police and the Jefferson County IN Coroner’s Office are conducting an independent investigation into the circumstances and cause of death.

The Jefferson County IN Sheriff’s Office is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation and remains committed to transparency throughout the process while also respecting the integrity of the investigation.

Out of respect for the family and pending official findings, no further details are being released at this time.

Sheriff Ben Flint and the members of the Jefferson County IN Sheriff’s Office extend their thoughts and condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this loss.

Additional information will be released as appropriate and when confirmed by the investigating agencies.

On or after Wednesday, May 27, crews will close S.R. 56 between North Getty Road and South Reid Road just west of Hanover to perform culvert replacement work. The closure will take place between approximately 7 a.m. and 5 a.m. for up to two days, weather permitting.

Radar shows thunderstorms with 1.5 to 2 inches of rain and more 0.5 to 1.5 inches possible, causing flash flooding of small creeks, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and low-lying spots. Turn around, don’t drown; avoid flooded roads and never drive through water.

On or after Monday, June 1, crews will close S.R. 3 between South County Road 50 East and East County Road 125 South to complete a box culvert replacement project south of Vernon.
