When I say I support my clients, that sometimes includes wearing their merch. I’m not mad about it though, this is probably my new favorite hat! You can get yours at coyotereaperoutdoorz.com

And oh yea btw we designed the website so come back and tell us how the buying experience was! Coyote Reaper Outdoorz

15 years ago today my dad passed away. He was 48.

I think losing a parent that young permanently changes your relationship with time. It makes you more aware of how fragile everything is and how quickly life moves whether you’re ready for it or not.

Honestly, a lot of the way I approach Freelance Design comes from that. I’ve never really cared much about chasing status or looking successful. I just want to build a life and business that feels honest to me and helps build my community.

Last week, Mayor Sean Wilson presented copies of the Waynesville Action Group newspaper project along with a commemorative city coin. I was a little late joining the project, but I’m grateful I still had the opportunity to contribute by helping transport old Daily Guides back to Waynesville and interviewing local businesses.

What impacted me most wasn’t just learning the history of Waynesville, but hearing the “why” behind the businesses that help shape it. Conversations with the people behind Hoppers Pub, Security Bank of Pulaski County, Downtown Service Station, and Old Stagecoach Stop reminded me how much heart, purpose, and history exist behind the places we pass by every day.

Such kind words from Rosalind Pride, Executive Director of the Free Women's Center, about her experience working with us on the designs for the 16th Annual Banquet for Life. I am incredibly thankful for their support over the years, and for sticking with me when I decided to strike it out on my own and start Freelance Design. This is a crazy dream that I get to live and it's only possible because of the support and encouragement from my clients, friends and family.

Incredibly thankful for the opportunity work on this project doing business interviews. I enjoyed being able to sit and talk with small business owners, some that I knew already and some that I met for the first time, and discover why they opened their businesses and why they chose Waynesville. I learned a lot about what makes these businesses special and the history our city went through to get where we are today. I have a deeper appreciation for the businesses commitment to the success of our community.

For the record I did not do the design layout for this project, it required a program I don’t use, I simply participated in the business interviews and assisted with bringing back the old daily guide newspapers from Rolla. Cynthia Hinderhan did an awesome job with this design!

Some people may think working for yourself means having extra time on your hands, but honestly, that’s rarely the case. I’m someone who loves being on the go, creating, connecting, and staying inspired. I’ve found that living a life I genuinely love is what fuels my best and most creative ideas.

Sometimes that looks like perfecting a design at 3am without realizing what time it is. Other times it looks like having the flexibility to show up better for my friends, family, clients, and community.

Starting Freelance Design has given me so much freedom and flexibility, and I’m incredibly thankful to be able to do what I love every day. Thanks for supporting my dream, I don’t take it for granted.
