Google has confirmed that its AI search features use its search index, ranking systems and quality signals to surface answers. Two key processes it relies on are:
π Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG): AI systems retrieve relevant, up-to-date content from Googleβs search index to produce more accurate answers.
π Query fan-out: AI can run multiple related searches at once, gathering information that addresses different aspects of a userβs question.
So, is SEO still relevant in the age of AI search? Absolutely.
Your website still needs to be technically sound, easy to crawl, clearly structured and supported by useful, authoritative content. These are all fundamentals of good SEO.
What is changing, however, is the way we approach it. Brands need content that answers related questions, covers topics in depth and gives both search engines and AI systems clear, reliable information to work with.
