When I first started my business, I said yes to almost everything. I wanted the experience, I wanted to build my portfolio, and honestly, I was scared that if I turned opportunities down, they might stop coming.

But after having my second baby, I started looking at my time very differently.

Every project costs me more than just the hours I spend creating it. It costs time, energy, mental space, and sometimes time I could be spending with my kids.

Now I’m a lot pickier about what I take on. Before I say yes, I ask myself: is this actually worth my time, my energy, and the family time it will cost me?

Not every opportunity is the right opportunity. I’m learning that saying no doesn’t mean I’m ungrateful or that another opportunity won’t come. It just means I’m being more intentional about what gets my time now.

1. Some days, I’m so tired that I resent the sound of my own kids needing me. I come home exhausted, but there’s no transition between work and motherhood. I walk through the door and immediately have to become a mom again.

2. The mom guilt is constant. When I’m working, I feel like I’m neglecting my kids. When I’m with my kids, I feel like I’m falling behind in my business. No matter what I’m doing, part of me feels like I’m failing somewhere else.

3. I can’t give 100% to every role every day. I work a full-time job, pick the kids up from daycare, come home, and give them everything I have left until bedtime. By the time they’re asleep, I’m already running on fumes.

4. Whatever’s left in the tank after that is what my side hustle gets. Some nights, that means I’m trying to create, writing emails, or painting while barely keeping my eyes open.

5. I don’t really get time to relax or catch up on my shows anymore. Even when I sit down, my brain is still working through the next piece, the next order, and the next idea. I’m physically resting, but mentally, I never really stop.

6. It’s my passion, not just a hobby, so why does it feel like I have to choose between being a creative, a good mom, and a good wife? I hate that pursuing something for myself can make me feel selfish.

But maybe my kids don’t need me to keep my dream separate from them. Maybe they just need to see me make room for it, even in the middle of our messy, busy life.

Olivia loves watching me paint, and lately, she’s been painting beside me. Maybe this is what building a business as a mom can look like, not perfect balance, but letting my kids be part of the dream too.

Follow along. I’m figuring it out too.

The longer I do this, the more I realize couples don’t need more wedding ideas.

They need someone to help them decide what’s actually worth it.

Because not every wedding detail needs to be there just because Pinterest says it should.

Some details guide your guests. Some tell your story. Some become keepsakes you’ll treasure long after your wedding day.

Those are the details I care about creating.

Save this for when wedding planning starts to feel overwhelming. 🤍
