Twelve years ago, I found myself sitting down with two Canadian Olympic gold medallists—Kaillie Armbruster [Humphries] and Heather Moyse.
At the time, it felt like one of those “how is this my job?” moments.
I was working with Sofina Foods and had the opportunity to interview them about their journey, their mindset, and what it takes to perform at the highest level. It was absolutely a career highlight—and honestly, it still is.
This photo popped up in my memories last week, and it stopped me for a minute.
Most days, we’re focused on the next deliverable, the next challenge, the next problem to solve. We move from meeting to meeting, project to project, rarely pausing long enough to look over our shoulder.
But sometimes it’s worth it.
Not just for the big milestones, but for the small moments too. The conversations. The opportunities you didn’t see coming. The experiences that quietly shape who you become.
What’s funny is that 2014 feels both like a lifetime ago and somehow like yesterday.
A lot has changed since then. Different roles. Different challenges. Different versions of me.
But seeing this reminded me of something important: I’m still learning. Still chasing interesting opportunities. Still saying yes to things that make me a little nervous. Still collecting stories.
And the fact that I believe there are more highlights ahead than behind?
That’s pretty cool in and of itself.
