His legacy will continue to inspire media professionals, institutions, and future generations working to strengthen journalism and creative expression in Ethiopia and beyond.

From mastering the art of Fact-Checking to diving into Podcasting and deconstructing complex Media Messages, these young leaders are now equipped to navigate the digital age with clarity and purpose.

The highlight of our journey? The official formation of the 'Damota' Media Literacy Club! ⛰️ Named after the majestic landmark of the region, this club will serve as a hub for critical thinking and digital storytelling.

Empowering Active Youth to Combat Disinformation in Jimma

On November 29 and 30, we had the privilege of working with a dynamic group of university students in Jimma who are already influential on social media. These trainees were incredibly active throughout the sessions as they learned about media literacy, fact-checking, and podcasting. Because they are already present and influential on social media, equipping them with these specific skills is vital for our digital ecosystem.

In a world where mis- and disinformation are disseminating rapidly, especially here in Ethiopia, we need a generation that understands responsible content creation. During the training, the students learned how to verify the information they receive and how to use mediums like podcasting to share accurate stories. They are now prepared to not only fact-check for themselves but to actively teach others in their networks about media literacy.

It is inspiring to see youth from Jimma ready to stand against false narratives and foster a more truthful online community.
