The outsider challenge: How Foli broke the rules of condiment packaging

Foli founder Nohra Currie, who is to speak at the upcoming London Packaging Week, is the packaging outsider who turned a search for better salad dressing into one of the category’s most distinctive new brands. After calls to around 100 manufacturers, a bottle many said wouldn’t work, and a launch that has already secured a Harrods listing, her story makes a compelling case for challenging convention.

Taghleef Industries launches PVC free graphics film range for signage, wall graphics and display

Taghleef Industries has introduced a new range of graphic films for visual communication, signage and outdoor advertising, built on a PVC free, chlorine free polypropylene (PP) platform. The launch extends the company’s film expertise from packaging and labels into the graphics and display market, giving converters and brand owners a substrate designed to match the performance of PVC without its plasticiser and chlorine chemistry.

The range includes printable films engineered specifically for UV inkjet and latex wide format printing, alongside a comprehensive line of over-lamination films available in gloss, matte, DL Soft Touch, anti-scratch, sandy, leather and canvas finishes. The 2026 festival season generates enough single use packaging to fill more than 500 double decker buses

As festival goers head to some of the season's biggest events this bank holiday weekend, from Reading and Leeds to Creamfields and Notting Hill Carnival, new research reveals the sheer volume of single use plastic left behind across a UK festival season.

Across UK festivals each year, more than 105 million single use packaging items are discarded including takeaway boxes, coffee cups, and plastic bottles. Together, that packaging would fill more than 500 double decker buses.

The average festival goer produces around 2 kg of waste a day, nearly twice as much as household waste per person, with the majority coming from takeaway food packaging and drink containers.

Meanwhile, three in four Brits (76%) believe festivals should only use plastic free food packaging, according to new research commissioned by materials innovation company Xampla.

The study also found four in five (80%) of the public believe all food packaging should be plastic free where possible.

Progress on increasing recycled content in plastic packaging stagnating

Progress on increasing recycled content in plastic packaging is stagnating with more than a third still failing to contain even 30% recycled plastic.

HMRC data on Plastic Packaging Tax revenue states that of the total tonnage of plastic packaging manufactured in and imported into the UK, 37% was declared as taxable under PPT (2024 / 2025: 38%).

Of the remaining 63% of plastic packaging tonnage manufactured in and imported into the UK, 51% met the 30% or more recycled plastic threshold, 11% was either exported, intended for export or converted and less than 1% was exempt because it was used for the immediate packaging of human medicines.

Plastic Packaging Tax revenue accrued by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in the financial year 2025 to 2026 totalled £250 million, decreasing by 4% compared to 2024 to 2025, which totalled £261 million, as of 13 August 2026, there were 5142 businesses registered for PPT.

Inside the Trailblazer experience: What happens when emerging talent gets recognised

Different routes into packaging. Different disciplines. Different ideas about where the industry needs to go next. Five members of the Future Trailblazer Class of 2026 reflect on the work that earned them recognition, what winning gave them and why the next generation should put themselves forward.

There is no obvious route to becoming a packaging Trailblazer.

Jordan Scott fell into the industry ‘completely by mistake’. Jess Morgan-Butler found it through a love of creativity and engineering. Olivia Tomlinson’s curiosity began with a question about the food packaging she encountered during a foundation art diploma: why isn’t this recyclable? Dhruvi Thakkar was attracted by the intersection of engineering, sustainability and real world impact. Then there is Isobel Duignan, whose approach can be condensed into two words: ‘Problem solver.’

Five people, five different routes and five different areas of expertise. What connects them is that, relatively early in their careers, each has found something in packaging they believe can be better and started doing something about it.

That is what brought them together as members of the Future Trailblazer Class of 2026.
