Southern Gospel Family… I need your help.
And I’m about to do something that Libbi Perry will probably kill me dead over.
But sometimes you help people you love, whether they asked for it or not.
Last night, my “Lil Sis,” Libbi Perry, reached out asking for prayer.
That’s nothing unusual. Libbi and I have been like family for nearly 50 years, and if there has ever been a true Prayer Warrior, it’s her.
She didn’t ask for money.
She didn’t complain.
She just asked us to pray.
But after praying about it, Foster and I both felt the Lord nudging us that maybe we should do something more.
Many of you know the Perrys’ bus…
“The Ole Chainsaw.”
That bus has carried them millions of miles so they could sing about Jesus in churches, revivals, camp meetings, auditoriums, and anywhere a door opened.
Right now, that bus needs a brand new engine.
The cost is over $60,000.
Now let me say something that folks outside this industry may not realize: Traveling gospel groups are not sitting on piles of money. They work week after week simply to cover fuel, payroll, maintenance, and ministry expenses.
And when you add to that the millions of dollars in medical bills that came during the long illness and passing of Libbi’s beloved husband and group co-owner, Tracy Stuffle, this kind of expense hits especially hard. I dare say that Libbi will never see those bills paid off in her lifetime... but still she sends in what she can.
But if you know Libbi Perry, you know something else.
She has faced more heartbreak than most people could imagine.
She has endured:
• the loss of two brothers
• the loss of her parents
• the loss of two children
• the loss of her husband
• a terrible bus accident
• and more unexpected changes in the group than anyone should have to navigate
And yet you have never heard her complain.
Instead, you’ve heard her say:
“God has been faithful… and He will continue to be faithful.”
And sing, “’Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus.”
But friends… maybe God’s faithfulness sometimes looks like His people stepping up to help carry the load.
So here’s a thought.
If 500 people gave $120, the entire need would be met.
Many of us spend that much on dinner out or a couple tanks of fuel.
But if we each did a little, we could completely remove this burden from Libbi and the guys.
And maybe even leave a little extra in the ministry account to give them some breathing room.
I have around 13,000 followers here. The Perrys have many times that number of friends and supporters across the country.
