Meet BetterWeb Gives Finalist 3: Student Civic Leaders by Maya's Way

Maya Nayar believed in the power of young people to create change. She lived with passion, joy, and deep love for life and everyone in it. Now her legacy lives on through Maya’s Way, a nonprofit organization founded in Ohio and rooted in love, kindness, and compassion.

Maya’s Way strengthens communities by empowering youth through education, leadership, service, and compassion. Student Civic Leaders (SCL) is a flagship Maya’s Way program that gives high school students the tools, mentorship, and real-world experience to turn ideas into lasting community assets that continue serving others long after their time in the program.

By putting young people in the driver's seat and giving them genuine civic problems to solve, SCL is building the next generation of community-minded leaders who are ready to make an impact long before they graduate.

Meet BetterWeb Gives Finalist 2: Second Mile Shop

Based in Berea, Ohio, Second Mile provides tangible support and compassionate care to individuals and families navigating food insecurity and financial crises. Whether they are providing food assistance, clothing, household goods, or furniture, this nonprofit organization is doing the quiet, essential work that holds communities together.

In a single year, Second Mile served over 109,000 meals to people in need across Cuyahoga County and supported more than 3,000 veterans. Their choice pantry model gives clients the dignity of selecting what they need—a small but meaningful difference that sets them apart. By offering essential resources alongside a consistent community presence, they aim to restore hope and build stable pathways forward for their community.

The need for their services is real, and we know from experience that a better website could help more people find them when they need help the most.

Meet BetterWeb Gives Finalist 1: Brodie's Good Vibe Tribe (BGVT)

BGVT was born from a deeply personal journey. In 2015, co-founder Traci Tigue donated a portion of her liver to save her 4-month-old son Brodie's life—an act of courage that any mother would want to do.

During that year of transplantation, the Tigues were surrounded by a community of people who showed up for them in every possible way. That pivotal experience became the foundation for something bigger.

Today, BGVT is a Northeast Ohio nonprofit that educates communities about organ donation and provides direct emotional and financial support before, during, and after transplant. Through youth-led education programs, donor registration efforts, and real-life storytelling, BGVT is changing how the next generation understands organ donation—while helping families find hope, resources, and life-saving connections when they need them most. Because everyone deserves a tribe in their corner.

🎉 We just launched a brand new website and we couldn't be more excited to share it!

We had the pleasure of partnering with Documentary Songwriters — DocSong — to build out their new online home. DocSong trains teaching artists in documentary songwriting, a beautiful collaborative process where musicians help people turn their real-life stories into songs that heal, empower, and inspire. :sparkles:

Our team handled everything from website strategy and build to hosting, and we had a blast doing it. One of the coolest parts of the project? We built a smart backend system using interlinked custom post types so the DocSong team can easily manage their content and users can find exactly what they're looking for.

Working with the DocSong team was a joy from start to finish — their mission is so meaningful and their energy made this project really special for us.
