The room matters. Think & Thrive is where nonprofit leaders step away from the day-to-day to connect, learn and collaborate with people who understand the work. We’re doing it again Nov. 19.

You can build a stronger organization while slowly running yourself into the ground.

Nonprofit leaders spend so much time thinking about what the organization needs next:

The right systems.
Better infrastructure.
More funding.
A stronger team.
Greater impact.

And because we’re results-driven, we figure it out. We push through. We keep building.

But there’s a question I’ve been asking myself—and other nonprofit leaders:

At what cost?

If building a sustainable organization requires an unsustainable version of you, we need to examine how we’re leading.

That’s part of the conversation we’re continuing at Q4 Thursday Think & Thrive with Telisa Dixon on November 19.

Reclaiming Your Sense of Self: Body Up. Brain Down, in a Culture of Scarcity

You’ve spent the year carrying the mission. Let’s make room to talk about how you’re carrying it.

What happens when “doing more with less” stops being temporary and becomes the culture?

In the nonprofit sector, scarcity doesn’t always look like an empty bank account.

Sometimes it looks like:
• Everything is urgent.
• Resources are always stretched.
• Expectations keep growing.
• Internal capacity can’t keep up.

And eventually, people start absorbing the gap.

That’s why our Q4 Thursday Think & Thrive conversation matters.

On November 19, Telisa Dixon will lead us through Reclaiming Your Sense of Self: Body Up. Brain Down.™ in a Culture of Scarcity.

Because your organization needs capacity.

So do you.

Swipe through, then tell me: Which sign of a culture of scarcity shows up most often in nonprofit work?

Nonprofit leaders: when did “doing more with less” become normal?

We find the money. Fill the gaps. Solve the problem. Support the team. Keep the programs moving. And somehow, we keep showing up.

But there’s a question we don’t ask nearly enough:

What is all of that doing to the person carrying the mission?

That’s where we’re going for our Q4 Thursday Think & Thrive.

On November 19, Telisa Dixon will lead an interactive presentation:

Reclaiming Your Sense of Self: Body Up. Brain Down.™ in a Culture of Scarcity

We’ll explore how nonprofit leaders can recognize internal signals, develop greater internal safety and lead with more intention, clarity and sustainability—even when the external demands aren’t slowing down.

This is not about stepping away from your mission.

It’s about making sure you don’t lose yourself while carrying it.

Nonprofit leaders, instead of starting your next content meeting with “What should we post?”, try asking four different questions:

👉🏿 What do people need to understand?
👉🏿 What story can we tell?
👉🏿 Why does it matter right now?
👉🏿 What should someone do next?

Your organization probably has more content than you realize. It's happening through your programs, participants, volunteers, partnerships, milestones and everyday impact.

Your content calendar shouldn't start with filling empty squares. It should start with identifying the stories your organization has to tell.

Nonprofit leaders, this is something I think we need to talk about more.

We put so much energy into building sustainable organizations—systems, processes, funding, infrastructure and growth—while continually putting ourselves on the back burner.

I’m results-driven, so I understand the temptation to keep pushing until the work gets done.

But eventually we have to ask ourselves: At what cost?

We can't talk about organizational sustainability without also considering the sustainability of the people leading these organizations.

09/01/2026

What if constantly doing more with less isn’t something nonprofit leaders should simply accept?

In our newest Elevate Your Impact Podcast conversation, Telisa Dixon introduces us to the nonprofit starvation cycle—and how expectations around overhead, staffing, systems, and resources can keep organizations and their leaders operating from scarcity.

And that leads to an even bigger question: What is this cycle doing to the people carrying the mission?

We dig into it in The Hidden Cost of Leading from Scarcity.

Okay… the Thursday switch was a GOOD move. 🙌🏾

Our first Thursday Think & Thrive reminded me why I keep saying: you have to get in the room. You never know who you’ll meet, what connection will be made, or what opportunity might show up.

Case in point: one of our featured vendors, Crystal Gomez, GAVE AWAY A CRM! 🤯

Thank you, Patrina Pelton-Smith for founding us in grant readiness and co-panelists, Jessica Wright and Deja Harness for elevating the continued conversation!

We learned. We connected. We collaborated. And we proved that this community can thrive on a Thursday, too.

📅 Next up: Thursday, November 19.

You really do have to be in the room. 👀
