Amber Gillespie built the foundation of her career at FCG and has been growing on it ever since.

Now an Account Development Executive at Amazon Hub Delivery, Amber builds strategic partnerships and helps organizations identify growth opportunities. From marketing and project management to account management and sales, she's built a career centered on serving clients, solving problems, and creating meaningful connections.

She says being part of such a talented team at FCG reinforced her passion for client-facing work and empowered her to stay grounded in her values and integrity as a Black professional—a foundation she says she'll always be grateful for.

Mary Katherine “MK” Oglesby, one of our most recent alums and our former agency arborist, took the design skills she built at FCG straight into a career shaping engineering proposals.

Now a Graphic Designer Jr at Kimley-Horn in Fort Worth, TX, Mary Katherine helps design the Requests for Proposals and Statements of Qualifications that keep the firm's civil engineers busy on roadways, water/wastewater, and landscape architecture projects — plus internal presentations, one-pagers, and company announcements along the way.

She says she thrived at FCG because the team encouraged her to try new things, take projects in any direction, and grow her confidence — with Katy as a mentor who taught her design skills she still uses every day.

FCG alum Gabriel Austin took the skills he built as a web developer at the agency into both the classroom and his own business.

Gabriel now works as a Technology Integration Specialist and Design Teacher at All Saints Episcopal School in Hoboken, NJ, teaching design and technology while supporting ed-tech integration school-wide. He also runs his own web development and digital media company, Nomad Tech, helping people build stronger online presences through website design, branding, and digital strategy.

He says his time at FCG played an important role in his growth as a developer, giving him the chance to contribute to mission-driven work, learn from talented collaborators, and be part of projects centered on equity, justice, and community impact.

The theme for our 15th anniversary was inspired by the Fight for 15 campaign, and Aquita Brown actually worked on that campaign, fighting for a living wage for people across the country.

Aquita now works in business development for Elos, managing the RFP and RFQ process from research through final submission, supporting work like testing homes for lead and asbestos, protecting the cultural integrity of historic sites like Lincoln Beach, and assessing contamination to safeguard endangered species.

She says her time at FCG was defined by the people: Shantae sharpened her creative writing, Darius (aka the GOAT) taught her that your work can speak louder than your voice in the room, and Jason helped her find confidence leading meetings and presenting her ideas.

Daniel Thompson, another of the freedom fighters we are proud to celebrate during our 15th anniversary, carried FCG's six core values into his career in software engineering.

Now a Front End Software Engineer at Pekin Insurance, he is currently building a customer-facing payment portal for insureds and agents.

Creativity and curiosity remain the backbone of Daniel's work, cleverness helps him meet both customer and stakeholder needs, and compassion is why accessibility comes first in everything he builds.

Daniel says his time at FCG helped shape who he is as a person and a creative professional, and that he's better for it. And we are all better for the work Daniel does every day.

Over the past 15 years, we've had the honor and privilege to work with a team of courageous freedom fighters, and as part of our Fighting for 15 anniversary, we're spending this year spotlighting the people who've helped build our legacy of creative work in service of justice.

People like Halle Coleman, who says her time at FCG has shaped how she leads with empathy in every role since.

At Mississippi Power, Halle spent three years on the internal communications team focused on employee and executive communications, and is now moving into a new role on the external team covering social media and customer research.

She says her biggest takeaway from FCG was learning to keep equity top of mind, and that good decisions consider not just what a client or company wants, but how the work affects the customers and communities it serves.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. To fight for freedom, you need a team of freedom fighters. We’ve been spotlighting the people who’ve helped build our legacy of creative that works as part of our Fighting for 15 anniversary, and we’re thrilled to introduce you to Vaiden Alderwoman Willette Thomas.

While at FCG, Willette served in multiple leadership roles and built connections with teammates and clients she still treasures today. She says she’s carried the six C’s—courage, cleverness, compassion, creativity, curiosity, and communication—into both her professional and political career.

In addition to serving her constituents, Willette serves as the executive coordinator for one of our longest-standing clients, the Mississippi Alliance of Nonprofits and Philanthropy. Willette has spent the past year investing in her own growth as a leader, completing the Mississippi Black Leadership Institute, the inaugural P.I.L.L.A.R. Leadership Institute at Mississippi State University, the inaugural Southern Poverty Law Center Democracy in Training Cohort, and the Congressional Black Caucus Institute’s Political Bootcamp.

Kerry Nash spent five years with FCG before stepping into a career built on civic leadership. Since leaving, Kerry has graduated from the Mississippi Black Leadership Institute, the Congressional Black Caucus Institute Political Leadership Bootcamp, the Southern Poverty Law Center's Advocacy Institute, and the Mississippi Alliance of Nonprofits and Philanthropy’s Civic Engagement Collective.

Now, Kerry is the communications director at Mississippi Engaged and says FCG opened doors to knowledge and opportunity that shaped him in ways he's still discovering. And this year, he's celebrating something even bigger: he's getting married! (Shout out to Meg 💍)

Congratulations, Kerry. We’re fighting alongside you for the next 15.

People like Anissa Hidouk.

Anissa joined FCG while on a student visa, navigating a complicated transition in her immigration status. While at FCG, Anissa supported projects advancing women's health and social justice, and she taught us about the plight of Palestinians in the West Bank, a presentation that ranks near the top in the agency’s history.

Now, Anissa is a photographer based in Paris, France, and she says the way she approaches people and storytelling in her work today still traces back to her time in Jackson. You can check out some of Anissa's current work at https://www.anissahidvisuals.com/.
