No one loves a cute pun more than me. 9.25 - 9 to 5, Dolly Day. Fitting in so many ways.

Last night, Ray and I took our girls to their first concert. Yes, on a school night. Being old parents affords us certain rights (or so we tell ourselves) and one of those is giving experiences that far outweigh what they learn in the classroom.

We went to see Brad Paisley. Brad is very nostalgic to us. We went with our nieces for their first concert a decade ago to see Brad. Instead of lullabies, our girls fell asleep (and still sometimes do) to Brad. It made sense to us. And they had an absolutely wonderful time, even if we're all paying for it a little bit today.

Toward the middle of the concert, the lights went down save for a lone spotlight on Brad and he began singing "When I Get Where I'm Going." Suddenly beautiful black and white images of Dolly appeared behind him. If there was a dry eye in the arena, I'd be shocked. Even my husband got choked up a little.

Today, let's think about only happy tears, leaving your heart wide open, loving and having no fear. Even if it is just for today.

September 11th has always been one of those heart wrenching days for me, however it took on a strange dichotomy seven years ago when our Brinley was born. On one hand, I still grieve the lives lost and shared tragedy we all, as a nation, endured. On the other, I celebrate the beautiful life Ray and I brought into this world.

This morning, the day took a turn I did not expect when Sawyer asked me why people were talking about September 11th on the television, as she's only ever known it as her big sister's birthday. We never lie to our children, but we're always cognizant to keep things age appropriate. I did the best I could.

25 years ago...when was that? Mommy was a senior in high school. Oh okay. That day some very terrible people flew three planes into buildings in NYC and DC. Didn't they know they were going to hurt people? They did and that's what they were trying to do it. But those people died. They did. Did they catch the bad people? They caught the people responsible yes. Did they get in trouble? Yes, but today is not about them, it is about remembering the people who got hurt and died. It is about remembering how brave they were and how much everyone misses them. Has it happened again since then? No and hopefully nothing like this happens again in our lifetime. Okay. Okay.

Then Sawyer with her eternal optimism and beautiful smile looked at us and said, "The End." I smiled at her and she said, "Mom that's how all good stories end, with hope, a smile, and the end."

From the mouth of babes...❤️🤍💙

Over the past couple of days, I’ve seen beautiful tributes to the person Dolly Parton was – singer, actor, philanthropist. And as much as I wanted to chime in, I needed to organize the thoughts I had in a way that didn’t sound like random rambling. When I think about it, Dolly has seen me through multiple stages of my life, like that omnipresent figure on your shoulder. Growing up, Steel Magnolias was one of those movies that shaped the way I looked at everything from manners to pantyhose. When I became a parent, I watched as every month my kiddos got books from her Imagination Library. The joy that filled their faces was something I can never forget. Most recently, the idea of a “cup of ambition” has been one of the driving forces behind pushing the Fear Less brand forward, both for myself and my sweet kiddos. What Dolly gave us didn’t just live on screen, in her voice, or on the pages of books. She gave courage, perseverance, loyalty, kindness, and most importantly love. Living like Dolly is something all of us should strive to attain.

Does anyone else go a little overboard for their kiddos' birthdays? Or is that just a hazard of the job? 😆 Birthday season is upon us and while I'm actively planning three parties, I'm already thinking ahead to the holidays! I'm feeling red for the upcoming season!! 😉

We don't normally jump on trends but this one seemed too good to pass up!

Kind of chic...
..to be a girl mom...to be raising two intelligent, kind, strong, beautiful ladies...to be jealous of your girls' wardrobes. ..to be able to show your girls the meaning of hard work and grit...to afford them all the opportunities in life that make core memories...to be sad that summer is over.
