Startup Sioux Falls hosts a FREE monthly panel session called Startup Sunrise. It's a fantastic event each month with a dedicated topic of conversation.

On March 4th, I'm honored to be emceeing alongside our panel which consists of Karla Santi from Blend Interactive, Stefan Hartwig & Aaron Mentele from Electric Pulp. We'll be talking about all things web design, digital marketing, entrepreneurship, and I'd be surprised if we don't spend a little time discussing the impact of AI on the industry.

Attendance is 100% free and coffee is served! Get downtown on March 4th to check out what is sure to be a classic Startup Sunrise. Networking and refreshments will follow!

New Website Launch!

Check out https://wagzonesd.com for the new online home of Wag Zone Pet Services, located in the Sioux Falls area conveniently just west of the Tea exit on I-29.

Working with Heather and Pete on getting their website updated has been a super fun project. They've opened a new facility within the past year and is the only facility I know of with daycare/boarding and a live-in caretaker. They call it "Slumber Party Boarding" and would be amazing for dogs who need attention while you're on vacation. They've been thoughtful in the way they set up their operations - it's truly an impressive set up!

If you need dog daycare, boarding, training, or grooming, Wag Zone is your place! If you need somebody to come by and walk your dog or just hang out for a few hours while you're out, they provide pet sitting and dog walking services as well!

I've built Forred Web Design up over the past 4-5 years and it has been a journey of learning. I've invested heavily in the tools and resources I need to provide top-quality web development services to the small/medium size business community in South Dakota. I've also invested heavily in myself. Joining the Startup Sioux Falls Co-Starters Bootcamp was a formative experience for my business and I encourage anyone who is early on in their entrepreneurial work to take part. It's a wonderful local resource and opportunity!

For me, it led to a chance to work with Fruit of the Coop on their website redesign. Stephanie works hard and offers a diverse set of products and services. I'm proud to have worked with her to build a website that works just as hard as she does.

Hi! I'm Ben 👋

If you're new here, allow me to (re)introduce myself! I was born in Aberdeen, SD and have lived in Sioux Falls since 2010 with my wife, Renee, and our 4 kids. We've got 2 kids at Patrick Henry Middle School, and 2 kids at Robert Frost Elementary.

I spent the first 15 years of my career after school working in biomedical research. I was drawn to science because I love solving problems and learning. As long as I can be creative and always learning new things, I'll be happy. 😊

While working in a corporate setting, I went back to school and earned an MBA from the University of South Dakota in 2017. I became interested in marketing, and during the pandemic I began to teach myself to code and build websites.

Since then, I've come to appreciate that a website is no longer just a brochure or informational tool. Your website should work as hard for your business as you do. I will build you a beautiful site that captures your brand and messaging, but is also designed to convert visitors into customers.

A pretty site that doesn't make you money is expensive art. This ain't art school, folks 😄

🤦‍♂️ Why is managing your Google Business Profile so unnecessarily complicated?

While working with one of our awesome (and super busy) clients this morning, it hit me how absolutely crazy this process has become. Thankfully, they got ahold of me before it really hit the fan.

In fact, I have previously helped several clients navigate Google's appeals process for a business profile after it was officially suspended for any of a billion reasons (that they don't give any insight into, of course.)

The irony here?

🤬 Google makes BILLIONS from small business advertising, yet their support systems feel like they were designed to frustrate you as legitimate business owners!
