💫 🎉 💫 Mankind Digital turns five! 💫 🎉 💫

Founding our tourism marketing agency during a global pandemic and a complete international travel ban was a crazy idea, or so we were often told! But rather than being intimidated by the short-term challenges of that time, we focused on the longer-term need for change within the tourism sector. We also saw the timing as a unique opportunity to develop an organisation that would support the industry in navigating its way towards a more responsible, regenerative and sustainable future. 🌏 🌿

Fast-forward to 2026 and you’ll find us celebrating our fifth anniversary of promoting responsible travel, prioritising people, planet and place, and channelling our passion into purpose! We have so much to be grateful for—in just a few years and with very few start-up resources, we’re amazed and incredibly fulfilled by how much we’ve achieved. 🤩

Take a look at some of our highlights:

🌟 Winning back-to-back international Skål Sustainable Tourism Awards in media, communications and education in 2022 and 2023, and placing third in the Communications category in 2025.
🌟 Attending and presenting at international conferences and events, and participating in travel sector panel discussions and interviews as a subject-matter expert.
🌟 Developing a niche service offering tailored specifically for our clients, including sustainable tourism marketing and communications audits, mentorship programs, marketing workshop and training delivery, authentic place-based travel content creation and storytelling, editorial calendars, optimised website content, email marketing and social media campaigns.
🌟 Partnering with like-minded clients who are prioritising local experiences, listening to community voices, and encouraging slower travel, regional dispersal and deeper engagement with local culture, landscapes and producers across their regions.
🌟 Delivering purposeful, impactful work for an international client base who are committed to making a difference in the tourism sector.
🌟 Bringing together a talented, multidisciplinary global team who specialise in tourism marketing and communications, sustainability, regenerative tourism, travel content writing, education and training.
🌟 Business expansion from Australia to our European base. Our clients and team are now spread across five continents, from Australia to Europe, South Africa, the Caribbean and Asia.
🌟 Building rewarding relationships with our clients, partners, peers and team worldwide. We spend valuable time in person where possible, whilst for day-to-day operations we also maintain a remote-first business model that demonstrates our sustainability and regenerative tourism commitments.
🌟 Consistent 5-star Google reviews and ongoing, unsolicited positive feedback from our clients.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported, guided and celebrated with us over the years. We wouldn’t be here without your trust and belief in us. 💖

With so many achievements to be proud of, now is the perfect time to reflect on our agency’s evolution and the impact of our efforts and contributions over the last half decade. To celebrate, we’re about to release our inaugural regenerative road map and ripple effect report! 🌱 Subscribe to our newsletter via the subscription form at the bottom of our website to receive a copy 👉 https://mankinddigital.com.au/

💫🌿 As another exciting year for Mankind Digital draws to a close, we’re reflecting on the past 12 months as we map out our ideas, plans and vision for 2026.💡

This year took us places, literally! 🌏 From meeting up with our incredible clients in Cuba, Spain and Australia, to attending the Skål International World Congress in Cusco, we’ve been lucky to connect in person with travel businesses we support, our team and partners worldwide. 💚 The conversations, lunches, coffees and ideas we shared matter more to us than ever.

✨ Our learnings from innovation and tech summits, training in regenerative tourism development and many tourism and marketing webinars advanced our thinking about storytelling, digital innovation and responsible tourism design and development. Curiosity plays a big part in how we work and is a key driver in everything we do!

🌱 Throughout 2025, we expanded and grew. We welcomed new global clients and evolved existing partnerships. We also collaborated with inspiring people who genuinely care about creating a better future for the tourism sector and everyone impacted by it.

🏆 One of the highlights was being recognised for the 3rd time at the Skål Sustainable Tourism Awards! We received a bronze award in the Communications category, a meaningful affirmation of the values and approach that guide our work.

It’s hard to believe that 2026 marks our fifth anniversary! 🎉 Five years of learning, sharing, transforming and choosing responsible and ethical approaches to tourism marketing while supporting the tourism sector to evolve.

To everyone who’s been part of our journey this year, THANK YOU! 🤗 We wish you a wonderful Christmas and look forward to reconnecting in 2026. 🎄💫

Merry Christmas! 🥂

🌏 Responsible tourism terms and descriptions—a practical guide

We believe a responsible approach to tourism means creating travel experiences that actually benefit people, planet and place. 🌿 However, as greenwashing continues to muddy the waters, consistent and universally understood descriptions and terms matter more than ever.

Why? Because words shape actions. When we misuse or misunderstand terminology, we risk creating more confusion—or worse, causing unintended harm or disinterest.

With so many different models, approaches, terminology and descriptions—such as sustainable, regenerative, community-based and transformational tourism—using clear, accurate language is therefore essential. ✅

To fill a major gap in available online resources, we developed a free, comprehensive glossary of responsible tourism terms—a project that started when our team of travel writers struggled to find a credible, up-to-date reference. 💫 Created in collaboration with our global tourism partners and affiliates, it’s designed to help tourism professionals, businesses and travellers navigate the often confusing web of terminology.

This glossary breaks down tourism models and approaches in practical, easy-to-understand terms and descriptions, while showing how they interconnect and overlap. As a living resource, it will be regularly reviewed and updated as new practices, learnings and insights emerge.

Access the glossary on our website here 👉 https://mankinddigital.com.au/glossary-of-responsible-tourism-terms/

🌿⚡ How Tourism East empowered their premium partners to tell their sustainability stories

As global visitor numbers increase, prioritising responsible, sustainable and regenerative tourism initiatives is critical for destinations. 🌏

For Tourism East, formerly Yarra Ranges Tourism, empowering their premium regional tourism partners to effectively promote sustainable and responsible tourism offerings is a top priority. ✅ They asked Mankind Digital to develop and deliver a customised 90-minute webinar exploring how to effectively and ethically communicate sustainable tourism through digital channels and storytelling so participants could improve their communications without greenwashing.

Euan McDonald-Madden, Head of Marketing & Communications, says:

🗨 “Fantastic experience! The marketing knowledge shared by Keeley was exceptional, and the content provided was very comprehensive. It's evident that Keeley and the team are well-versed in their field, offering valuable insights that have truly enhanced our understanding. They were easy to deal with and professional and responsive.”

Thank you, Euan—we’re thrilled that the webinar was useful and you enjoyed working with us! 💚

🌱 Is your tourism marketing strategy truly reflecting your organisation’s sustainability goals and efforts? Does it clearly communicate your commitment to responsible tourism development and appeal to visitors, staff and your local community?

Too often, incredible sustainability efforts get lost in translation—or worse, they aren’t shared at all. This means missed opportunities to share your sustainability stories, connect with values-driven travellers, inspire loyalty and build genuine brand credibility.

That’s where our tailored Sustainable Tourism Marketing and Communications Audit comes in!

✨ Over four valuable online sessions, you’ll work directly with JoAnna Haugen, founder of Rooted Storytelling, and Keeley Warren, founder of Mankind Digital. Together, they’ll dive into your current marketing strategy, review your digital presence and find opportunities to align it with your sustainability commitments.

Through this collaborative process, you’ll receive:

✅ A comprehensive audit of your marketing and communications to spot gaps between what your brand promises and what it actually delivers in terms of sustainability.

✅ Clear, evidence-based recommendations for refining your brand messaging and content—so you can attract travellers and employees who care about responsible tourism.

✅ Strategic advice on making the most of your digital channels to share your sustainability efforts and impacts, strengthen your brand credibility, drive customer loyalty and increase bookings.

✅ Bonus resources and templates to help you meet marketing goals, save time and become more efficient with your marketing efforts, plus recommendations on how to best engage your target audiences and media.

This isn’t just about tweaking your website copy—it’s about empowering your team to tell your sustainability stories with authenticity and impact, so they resonate with the people you most want to reach, whilst remaining ethical and avoiding greenwashing.

🌱 Why is an SEO strategy important for the growth of your sustainable travel business?

Google processes more than 5 trillion searches per year, which is an average of 9.5 million searches per minute!* 🤯

Our data shows that around 7 out of 10 people find our clients’ websites via search engines like Google. These potential new customers are often looking for products, experiences, services and information, rather than a specific brand or business name.

Using strategic search engine marketing tactics to increase your website’s visibility and attract the right visitors to your region is therefore critical. ✅

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) enhances a visitor’s first experience with your business, helping you tell your sustainability stories, boost brand credibility and increase bookings online.

💡 A well-crafted SEO strategy with clearly presented, professional information shows your business as credible and established, building trust and loyalty from the moment travellers find it in the search engine results. Compelling title tags, meta descriptions and valuable, targeted content encourages people to click through to your website, explore your offering and choose to book with your business over your competitors.

The bottom line? SEO isn't just a ‘nice-to-have’ for tourism brands—it's an essential driver for customer satisfaction and business growth, while you ethically communicate your responsible tourism efforts. 🌏 Harness the power of search engines to attract your ideal travellers, share your commitments to responsible tourism in ways they understand, and make it easy for travellers to book with you.

🤔 Ever wonder if a hotel or tour operator is actually sustainable, ethical and responsible? Perhaps they don't communicate openly that they are, but they might be! So, why aren't some tourism businesses talking about it in their marketing campaigns?

The conversation dives into:

✅ Why greenhushing is happening and how it affects conscious travellers
✅ The right questions to ask tourism experience providers to best understand their commitments to delivering responsible tourism
✅ Practical ways to cut through confusing environmental messaging

Together, Keeley and JoAnna combine their unique expertise as communications experts specialising in ethical storytelling within the travel sector. This discussion empowers travellers to make travel choices that truly align with their values in an increasingly complex marketplace. 🌏

🎙️🌿 Community solutions—designing a new approach to tourism that's fit for the future

We're excited to share this conversation between Sonia Teruel from The Regen Lab for Travel and our founder Keeley Warren, recently aired on Travel Writers Radio. They delve into some of the challenges related to overtourism and discuss the importance of community involvement in local tourism development so that it works for everyone—not just visitors.

Key highlights:

✨ Moving beyond the overtourism crisis: While cities like Barcelona implement drastic measures to combat economic leakage, noise pollution and resource strain, smaller communities are pioneering proactive solutions.

✨ The power of dialogue: How facilitated conversations between locals and municipalities are creating shared visions that benefit residents, ecosystems and visitors alike.

✨ Community-led change: Why local voices matter most in shaping tourism's future—and how residents can actively participate in creating the places they want to live in, and discuss how they want to host visitors.

✨ Real-world impact: Why tourism models that regenerate rather than extract from the places they operate within are so important.

This conversation couldn't be more timely!

🎙️ This inspiring conversation between our founder, Keeley Warren, and Debbie Clarke from Centre for GOOD Travel recently aired on Travel Writers Radio. Together, they unpack the power of regenerative storytelling and what this means for the tourism and travel sector. 🌏

The conversation delves into:

✨ The framework behind regenerative storytelling—and why it's a game-changer for tourism organisations, destinations and travel writers. Debbie shares how we can be more intentional in the way we frame ‘the stories of us’, ‘the stories we tell through us’ and our ‘sphere of influence’.

✨ Why creating thoughtfully designed travel businesses with carefully considered content and messaging—for our teams, communities and customers—creates better experiences for everyone, with ripple effects that go on to benefit our environments and our communities.

✨ An excellent case study that highlights Canopy Tours in New Zealand, showcasing regenerative storytelling in action.

As Director of Regenerative Development at The Centre for GOOD Travel and host of The Good Awaits podcast (10,000+ downloads!), Debbie brings a fresh perspective on why a regenerative approach to storytelling is so important for the tourism sector.

🤔 Who might benefit from learning about regenerative storytelling?
