The federal government is investing up to $29 million to help strengthen Calgary’s water system and improve reliability as the city continues major infrastructure upgrades.

The first phase of the North Calgary Water Servicing project includes a new 22-km water feeder main and upgrades to three existing facilities. 🚰

A 49-year-old Calgary man has been charged with fraud and money laundering in connection with an alleged $164-million Ponzi scheme that investigators say involved more than 1,000 investors.

RCMP allege the scheme ran from 2020 to 2024, with investors told their money was being used for day trading. Police say investors received fabricated account updates, while roughly $163 million was allegedly transferred to external accounts.

Calgary’s detached home market cooled in August, with Northeast Calgary seeing the biggest year-over-year drop.

📉 Northeast: -6.44% → $560,500
📉 North: -3.89% → $647,400
📉 East: -3.11% → $489,500

Across Calgary, detached home prices were down 1.09% year-over-year.

Meanwhile, West Calgary and the city centre were the only areas to see prices rise.

The City of Calgary used AI, 311 reports and engineering data to rank more than 17,000 intersections based on pedestrian risk.

📍 #1: Martindale Boulevard & Martindale Gate N.E.
📍 #2: Falshire Drive & Falton Drive N.E.
📍 #4: 16th Avenue & 12th Street S.W.

The city has identified 26 intersections for potential upgrades between 2027 and 2030, including measures like curb extensions, roundabouts and improved pedestrian crossings.

Village Square Leisure Centre has closed its doors for more than a year as the 40-year-old facility undergoes major repairs and upgrades.

The $51M project is expected to run until the end of 2027, with the goal of modernizing aging systems and extending the centre’s lifespan.

🏒 The two arenas will remain open until March 2027.
