World Animal Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate animals and think about the small actions we can take to make a positive difference in their lives.

There are plenty of ways to get involved:

🐶 Be a responsible pet owner by providing your pet with the right nutrition, exercise, veterinary care, enrichment and plenty of love.

🤝 Support animal organisations by volunteering your time, donating, or simply sharing their social media content to help their message reach more people.

🦔 Help wildlife in your community by keeping outdoor spaces safe, avoiding litter, providing fresh water where appropriate, and respecting local wildlife and their habitats.

Every action, big or small, can help shape a kinder world for animals.

How will you be celebrating World Animal Day? Tell us in the comments!

Green Iguanas sure are an impressive reptile to care for, but they do need very specific husbandry.

One of the most common reasons that we see health problems in these fascinating creatures can be related to their husbandry, so let’s take a look at our top recommendations for keeping Green Iguanas.

🌡️ Heat: Like all reptiles, iguanas regulate their body temperatures by basking in the sun. We encourage giving them access to both a hot and a cool end of their enclosure, providing them with a temperature gradient.

💡 UVB: An ultraviolet bulb is essential to allow iguanas to metabolise calcium, keeping their bones strong and healthy. And make sure it’s changed at least every 6-months!

🥬 Diet: Green iguanas are herbivores and enjoy eating dark coloured leafy greens such as watercress, dandelion leaves and collard greens. Light green leaves should generally be avoided as they have lower levels of nutrients. You can also offer vegetables like peppers and squash.

🌿 Enclosure: Iguanas like to climb high, meaning that a tall enclosure is best. Provide them with plenty of branches to climb, as well as a covered area to feel safe. Keep a close eye on humidity levels with a hygrometer to help with skin shedding.

🫴 Handling: Be aware that iguanas can become territorial. Due to their size and strength, they do have the capacity to cause injury, so we do not recommend them for beginner keepers.

Green iguanas are very rewarding to keep, but they are a big commitment due to their lifespan of 10 - 20+ years.

With the correct diet, space and husbandry, green iguanas can thrive in captivity.

Unfortunately, Budgies can be prone to developing tumours.

Tumours can develop in different body systems, including the skin, internal organs and reproductive areas. They can either be benign or malignant.

Tumours often appear as a new swelling or lump along with symptoms such as weight loss, reduced activity and abnormal behaviour. Signs can vary, depending on where the tumour is located.

As birds hide illnesses very well, we recommend booking them in for an appointment if you are worried about a lump or their behaviour. 🩺

Who owns Degus?

These highly social animals live in groups in the wild, so companionship is super important in captivity.

A single degu is not a happy degu and can lead to stress and boredom.

It is important to offer plenty of space for a group of degus, including hiding spaces and foraging enrichment. Group sizes of 2 - 4 degus of the same gender usually work well.

We’d love to see photos of your degus in the comments below. 📷

We often talk about giving pets a second chance, a safe home, and a family to love them. But sometimes, it feels like they give just as much back to us.

Did your pet rescue you, too? 🥰

Did you know that dogs have a third eyelid called nictitating membrane? 👁

This helps to protect the eye and helps it remain moist. Usually, it stays hidden in the corner of the eye, but you may see it when your dog is falling asleep 😴

Have you ever seen it? 🤔
