After HubSpot released its AEO dashboard at Spring Spotlight, we jumped onto it straight away.

Having just rebranded and changed domains, our baseline wasn't as good as it otherwise would've been.

So we got to work.

In just 2 months, we increased our own brand visibility from 17% to 65%, nearly 4x growth.

How did we do it?

We systematically selected and executed the most relevant items in HubSpot's AEO recommendations tab.

AI search is already here, and the brands investing in Answer Engine Optimisation now are the ones showing up in results.

Dylan Alcott spoke at HubSpot GROW this year on how courage, vulnerability and purpose drive modern leadership.

"We are living through a platform shift that happens only once every 15–20 years."

The 'Growth in the Age of AI' session at HubSpot GROW Sydney, and the insights from Yamini Rangan really stuck with the team.

We’ve moved past the 'experimentation' phase.

The real goal now? Moving from individual AI productivity to institutional AI productivity.

3 Key takeaways from this session were:

Context is King: AI output is generic, but AI outcomes require your unique customer data and brand voice.

The Blur is Real: The lines between Sales and Customer Success are disappearing. It’s no longer a handoff; it’s a continuous value loop.

Mindset over Map: In the 2020s, there is no map, only a compass. Success belongs to the 'learn-it-alls,' not the 'know-it-alls.'

As Yamini said: "Mistakes are the journey." So don't be shy, have a go yourself, you might be surprised what will come out of it.

AI search is catching up fast, with AI sessions now reaching 56% of traditional search volume worldwide.

If you aren't doing AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation), you’re becoming invisible to your customers.

After listening to Aja Frost at HubSpot GROW share her 7 AEO secrets to winning in the age of Answer Engines, here's what we took away.

1. The Blog is NOT Dead
AI models use blogs as their primary training ground. 62.1% of citations in AI answers come from blog posts and listicles. If you want AI to know your pricing or value prop, put it in a blog.

2. Keywords -> Context
The average Google search is 5 words; the average AI prompt is 350 words. Stop targeting generic keywords and start creating content for specific Persona + Use Case combinations.

3. Structure for "Extractability"
AI wants content on a silver platter. Use question-based headings (e.g., "How do I do X?" instead of "X Best Practices") and FAQ Schema to help the bots "read" your site.

4. Freshness is the New Authority
Recency matters 25% more to AI than to Google. A recently updated page is a "trust signal." Don't just write new content; relentlessly refresh the old to stay in the citation pool.

5. Backlinks don't predict AI visibility
This is the big one: Massive backlink profiles do not predict AI visibility. AI looks for the clearest snippet, not the highest domain authority. The playing field is officially levelled.

6. The "Consensus" Rule
AI forms opinions by looking for consensus on LinkedIn, Reddit, and YouTube. If real people aren't talking about you there, the AI won't recommend you.

7. Embrace the Volatility
If you aren't doing AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation), you’re becoming invisible to your customers; instead, measure your visibility trends over time.

Stop writing for the algorithm and start being the answer. Be the business AI recommends.
