They get distracted. They make snap judgments. They don't always behave the way we expect. And that's exactly the point.

At the 2026 Iowa Museum Association Annual Conference, our creative director, Greg Dietzenbach, will challenge conventional thinking in his session, “The Unreasonable Museum: Designing for Real Brains, Not Ideal Visitors.”

Expect a little psychology, a lot of creativity, and some fresh perspectives on making museum experiences more human, meaningful, and memorable. 💡

OUR GROUNDS CREW IS GOATed. 🐐

When you work with nature centers, you pick up a thing or two about caring for the environment. We recently called in the pros to tackle some overgrowth around MC. They snacked. They cleared. They even fertilized as they went.

Thanks to Goats On The Go Dubuque for helping us practice what we preach—and for lending us one heck of a grounds crew.

Fun fact: Did you know there are very few goat-related songs that are appropriate for Facebook? We did our best. Maybe don’t turn the sound on.

As nears its end, we’re reflecting on how museums are full of surprises.

A b**r can. Pajamas. A snow-removal machine.

Not exactly what you'd expect to find in an art museum—but that's what made "Dubuque by Design" so memorable. By exploring local history through the lens of design, this Dubuque Museum of Art exhibit uncovered the surprising ways the city's creativity has influenced everyday life.

As continues, we’re celebrating how museums are transformative. 🙌

Alone, the earthmoving equipment at the Earthmoving Legacy Center is impressive. But a shovel and wheelbarrow make it extraordinary.

Placed side by side, they reveal the ingenuity, determination, and innovation that transformed an industry—and uncover the human element behind the machinery that’s reshaped our world.

Sometimes understanding where we started is the best way to appreciate how far we’ve come. Cheers to humanity’s grit and ability to constantly evolve!
