In celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and keeping with Seacoast African American Cultural Center (SAACC) tradition, we invite you to join us for the 5th Annual Freedom Walk.

We are grateful to collaborate with SAACC, Black Heritage Trail of NH, Green Acre Bahai', Seacoast NAACP, BLM of NH, North Star American Zion Church and Jukwaa Mazoa Productions to bring to life what is set to be a powerful day of reflection, unity, remembrance, and hope.

The Freedom Walk is more than a community event — it is a living tribute to the generations who fought for liberty, justice, dignity, and the promise of freedom for all. As we gather together, we honor the stories, resilience, and contributions of African Americans whose voices and sacrifices helped shape our nation and continue to inspire change today.

This year’s walk invites community members of all ages and backgrounds to come together in the spirit of solidarity and shared purpose. Through music, fellowship, and collective movement, we will celebrate our history while recommitting ourselves to building a more just and inclusive future.
Whether you are joining for the first time or continuing this tradition with us, your presence matters. Bring your family, friends, neighbors, and walking shoes as we walk together in remembrance, celebration, and community.

Let us move forward together — honoring the past, uplifting the present, and inspiring the future.

**Parking will be available in Portsmouth NH, please see the map in comments for parking recommendations. You will need to crossover the John Paul Jones Memorial Bridge on foot to participate in the walk**

Stayed up waaayyyyy passed my bedtime with Israeli journalist, Shany Littman and her husband the prestigious cinematographer, Amir. So worth it.. ❤️

We came together for a serious discussion on the human impact of the Israeli conflict and left as family. More to come...

We talked, we laughed, we ate, we
shared.

Thank you for featuring me in the 2026 article!

When Shaunte Whitted learned about the Community Loan Fund’s Community-Driven Economic Empowerment program in 2023, she discovered, in her words, “more than a grant opportunity.”

"Bloody Sunday" hit different as I spent the day reflecting on the sacrifices of those who came before me, while taking inventory of how I will be steadfast in moving the needle forward for those behind me.
In January, I had the pleasure of meeting Betty Mae Fikes, affectionately known as the "Voice of Selma". Betty Mae is a dynamic storyteller who weaves spirituals into her narrative, bringing to life the powerful story of her teenage years—when she spent weeks in jail for standing up for voting rights. Her stories of brutality, witnessed firsthand while many others had only seen it on television, pierced my soul.

Check out this engaging conversation on US allies and diplomacy facilitated by fellow board member, Ret. Ambassador to Denmark, Dick Swett and Senator Jeanne Shaheen, high ranking member of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

Two years ago, I walked into a World Affairs Council of New Hampshire space as a guest—curious and hopeful. I had aspirations of becoming a member of the organization. That day, Former Ambassador Dick Swett, did something which quietly changed the trajectory. He walked up to me, introduced himself. He then walked around and introduced me to every benefactor and leader who sustains this organization. He didn’t have to. But he believed in the power of opening doors—and in people.

Fast forward to today, and I find myself standing beside him not just in conversation, but in purpose. We now serve together as Board Members of the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire. I’m deeply honored to recently have been nominated as the Development Committee Chair—working to steward the very relationships I was once graciously welcomed into.

The discussion on “Greenland & the Future of the Trans-Atlantic Alliance,” feels especially meaningful. Not only because of its global importance, or because of the distinguished voices involved—but because it reflects how stewardship, trust, and shared commitment can come full circle. Dick, thank you for seeing potential before there was a title and leading with generosity. And for reminding us all that diplomacy isn’t only practiced on the world stage—it starts with how we show up for one another.

Grateful. Grounded. And excited for what’s ahead. 🌍✨
