Call for action folks. If nothing else, just hear me out. Matt is the wizard behind the curtain of Event Santa Cruz, and I met him 13-ish years ago when he first arrived in town. From my perspective Santa Cruz grew on Matt like a, um, well let's just say he drank the Kool-Aid and he's been a community-centric promoter for about 10 years. Wanna see?
Matt invited me to speak at the first Event Santa Cruz at our beloved Theatre. He tasked me with entertaining an audience of 200 people with a budget of $200, and this is what I came up with :

But before you get bored with "2013 Nervous Not-Relevant Chris" experimenting with public speaking and audience participation, it's not just Event Santa Cruz that Matt built.
Like many of us in the business community, we just don't know how to say no "The Calling". Matt also holds a role at Santa Cruz Works which, for a while he was carrying by himself.
Did I mention he co-founded TechRaising? It's a geek hack-a-thon which has spawned a few businesses in town, and it's really been a proving ground for budding entrepreneurs. In fact our team has participated in four such events which had a profound effect on my teams and our community.
But here's the thing. You might not be a tech GEEK like I am, and that's totally cool. I think this whole crisis has been a testament to our community, both in our unspoken community norms and the behavior we naturally exhibited as reasonable human beings, and for the greater good of this community.
Many of our community members are hurting, and you may likely be affected by this crisis in a bad way. If you are however able to contribute any amount, even five bucks, that is going to send a message to Matt and others like him that their investment in the community was worth it. And we so need people to invest in he greater good. That despite the divisive climate that we live in, it is still worth fighting the good fight on general principals.
My company is weathering the storm "this week", and we've been fortunate in ways that others have not. That is not lost on me. I am thankful we are able to keep our employees paid and fed in the short term, even we don't know what lies ahead.
I am keeping the faith that we will all get through this, TOGETHER. It will be tough, and this will pass. Regardless of the unknown, and despite our precarious position, I felt we needed to share our good fortune with Matt in honor of his service to the community.
Will you join us and contribute in any amount to our community catalyst Matt Swinnerton?
