Ark Advance

Ark Advance Auckland marketing agency. Google Ads, SEO, and analytics for NZ businesses.

We measure what works and fix what doesn't — so your marketing budget actually grows the business. Ark Advance helps NZ businesses grow through Google Ads, SEO, analytics, and conversion-focused websites. We're a small Auckland team that prefers measurement over guesswork — every campaign, page, and recommendation gets tested against real numbers. If you've been told your cost-per-lead is "just what it costs in your industry," we'd like to challenge that.

"I'm using AI now. Why do I need you?"

Fair question, and I'm getting it more and more.

Here's the honest answer. The AI everyone's using is trained on the whole internet, which means largely American data and largely big-corporate data. It's genuinely good at telling you what works for a business ten times your size, in a market you don't operate in.

We've spent 24 years working on New Zealand businesses. That's the part the model hasn't seen.

So we use both. The model's knowledge and ours, mixed together. That's where the answers worth having come from.

Short version in the video. If you want to talk about where AI actually fits in your marketing, get in touch.

Email marketing was the first thing Ark Advance ever did, back in 2002. Helping business owners get their heads around this strange new thing called email.

Over the years the ads side grew and grew, and email quietly became the supporting act. Now it's getting the spotlight back. We've taken on Hit Send, an Auckland email marketing service, and we're putting real focus behind email again.

I'm genuinely glad about it. You don't own your audience on Facebook or Google. You rent it. The rules change, the costs creep up, and the reach you had last year quietly disappears. Email is the one channel you actually own, a direct line to people who already chose you once.

It isn't a replacement for ads. The ads find new people. Email keeps the ones you've already won. The businesses that do both tend to do best.

If you've got a customer list sitting in a spreadsheet doing nothing, that's money left on the table. Happy to talk it through.

AI just made a lot of teams more productive. The question nobody's really asking: what do you do with the time it frees up?

There are two options.

Bank it - do the same work with fewer people. Feels safe. But every competitor has the same AI, so everyone trims costs at once and nobody actually pulls ahead. It's a race to the bottom.

Spend it - keep your team and put that freed-up time into better service, new offers, the things customers actually notice. A better offer is hard to copy. Cost-cutting isn't.

The business that reinvests this year builds capability that pays off even bigger next year. The one that banks it saves a bit once, then stands still.

So I'm curious - if AI's given your business a bit of breathing room, are you banking it or spending it? Let me know below.

One phone call can change your business. But most owners can't tell me which ad caused it.

Here's what we do about it. We bake call tracking into every client account, and it doesn't stop at tracking. When a call comes in, the caller is told up front that it's recorded. Then we transcribe it.

That lets us tell a client which calls came from genuine prospects, and exactly which ad brought them in. And which ones were tyre-kickers or someone just trying to sell them something.

Then we stitch it all together so you can see the real dollar value of the sales coming out of your ads. The full return on every phone call.

If you're paying for calls but not listening to them, you're missing where the money actually is.

We've added video to our social work for a few clients lately - real campaigns, not stock examples. A mud-splattered Speed Queen farmer, Royale Kitchens rendered before they're built, Triton Hearing on Pinterest, and NZ-grown hardwood flooring for Hansen.

A static image gets scrolled past. Video gets watched. If you've ever wondered what actually holds attention on Facebook and Instagram, have a look:

Most people meet AI through a chat box. That's a bit like meeting the internet through a single website - useful, but it hides almost everything that's actually going on.

The chat window is the surface. The part worth paying attention to for a business is one layer down: connecting AI to the systems you already run.

We use it to read call transcripts and separate the real leads from the customer calls and the sales pitches, and to turn a week of campaign data into a short Monday-morning read. The chatbot doesn't know your business. Connected properly, AI can.

Here's how we think about it:

Google just published its first proper guide to AI search optimisation, and most of it is a list of things to stop doing.

That's unusual. Google almost never writes "don't" content. When they do, it's usually because too much money is being spent on the wrong things and they've decided to step in.

The six things they explicitly say you don't need are nearly all things being sold right now as "AI SEO" services:

- LLMS.txt files
- Content chunking
- AI-specific markup
- Mention-chasing across the web
- Pages for every query variation
- Special schema for AI

If you've been pitched on any of those in the last six months, Google's official guide is now the cleanest second opinion you can get.

I wrote up what they said and what it actually means for NZ businesses:

Google's first official AI search optimisation guide is mostly a list of things you don't need to do. Worth a read if you've been pitched on 'AI SEO'.

I went to IKEA and noticed something. There's almost no signage. No price-led ads on the walls. No "10% off this weekend." And yet you walk out with $400 of stuff you didn't plan to buy.

The whole experience is the message. They don't tell you what to think — they show you a life you'd like to have.

Most NZ businesses do the opposite: they tell you what to think and never show you anything. Here's what IKEA's approach has taught me about how to write better marketing.

IKEA finally opened in New Zealand. A few observations on how they've built an experience around removing every reason to hesitate.

Everyone's asking whether ChatGPT and Perplexity are eating Google's lunch.

The honest answer: we can measure some of it, but a lot of what's being said about "AI search traffic" is guesswork dressed up as data.

I pulled together what's actually trackable today — what shows up in GA4, what doesn't, and the consistency problems with treating AI assistants like a search engine. If you're being told you need to "optimise for AI search" right now, this is worth a read first.

AI search is growing fast, but the measurement tools haven’t kept up. Agencies are pitching “AI optimisation” with confident dashboards and ranking reports — but the research shows AI gives different answers almost every time. Here’s what we can actually track right now, where the gaps are...

A client of ours more than doubled their Google Ads conversions — without increasing budget, without changing keywords, without touching their bid strategy.

What we changed was the landing page. Specifically, the gap between what people typed into Google and what they saw when they landed. Most ad budget waste happens in this gap, and almost nobody looks at it.

Worth a read if you've been told your Google Ads cost-per-lead is "just what it costs in your industry."

A landing page rewrite increased conversions by 118% with no extra ad spend. The fix? Surfacing the client's real sales experience in their messaging.
