Here’s a look at the origins of the day and why we have this three-day weekend to enjoy.

Here’s a great idea from the City of Washougal that can be implemented with any school or neighborhood.

💚SEPT TRASH CHALLENGE💚
Back to school season means more traffic and more litter along the walking, driving, and bus routes to and from our community schools.

This September, take the challenge: Spend one hour a week picking up litter near school grounds, walking routes, bus routes, or local parks.

Help keep our community clean and welcoming for students, families, and everyone who travels through Washougal.

Take a photo of your cleanup and share your work using and tag .

💚Let’s make a difference, one hour at a time. Learn how you can make an impact at https://cityofwashougal.us/WashougalWins

Morel Ink is absolutely confident that all y’all know how to deal with what MIGHT BE rain headed our way. But we’re just so happy at the thought of its arrival that we’re going to share this message from the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT).

“For the first time in a while, we've got rain on the way! The first rain can bring oil and grease to the surface, so roads can be extra slippery. However you're traveling, slow down.

Driving? Turn your lights on, make sure windshield wipers are working properly, and drive, turn, and brake slowly.

Biking? Stay dry and warm with fenders, waterproof layers, gloves, and caps, use front and rear bicycle lights, watch for wet leaves and puddles, and brake slowly and often.

Pedestrians, dress warm and in layers, wear shoes with added traction, cross at a crosswalk or corner, and wear contrasting colors and reflective materials when it's dark outside.

Help us prevent local flooding by clearing storm drain near you. Portland’s storm drains, also known as catch basins, help with stormwater runoff and prevent flooding. When drains get clogged with fallen leaves and other debris, it leads to dangerous ponding along city streets and intersections. crews work hard to keep more than 58,000 storm drains clear but with so many, we can’t get to them all. Thank you to all Portlanders who have "adopted" storm drains in their neighborhoods and help us keep them free and clear.”

From Venture Portland:

“August 26th is Women’s Equality Day, which commemorates the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. The observance of Women’s Equality Day also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality.

We encourage you to support women-owned businesses on this day and every day. In fact, Oregon was recently named one of the best states for women-owned businesses, with 39% of employer businesses being women-owned.

To help you celebrate, we have listed a snapshot of Portland’s many women-led businesses and organizations.”
