I've just entered LocalFresh into the Gusto Impact Awards! Here's why I think LocalFresh deserves to win. It all started with choice: keep going when everything said stop.
When my husband died suddenly in 2020, I inherited his business—a digital marketing agency I'd never run. I had 30 years of marketing expertise but knew nothing about financials, operations, or leading a company. Selling seemed rational. But my team had a different idea.
Kammer, our VP, and Madrone, our CTO, were grieving too—they'd worked alongside my husband for over five years. Yet they showed up, kept clients served, and convinced me we could build something together. Their belief gave me courage to honor my husband's vision while creating something uniquely mine.
Five years later, my proudest impact is on the people who took that leap of faith with me.
When I took over, my team had no healthcare benefits and no paid time off. I made a commitment: if we survived, we'd build a workplace where people were truly valued. Last year, I added PTO. This year, despite the economic uncertainty, I implemented healthcare.
These aren't just benefits—they're recognition that the people who kept LocalFresh alive deserved more than I could initially give. My team doesn't just execute marketing campaigns; they're strategic thinkers who've helped dozens of clients thrive for over a decade.
Whether we win or not, I'm so proud of my team.
