Today, on , we're reminded that health is foundational to every community across the world.
78 years ago, the World Health Organization (WHO) was founded following the post-WWII world health crisis and a need for a global health governing body. Their goal? To emphasize both that international health collaboration is vital for peace and that health is unequivocally a human right.
The organization has come a long way in the decades since. From eradicating smallpox and nearly eliminating polio, to coordinating global responses to HIV/AIDS, Ebola, and COVID-19, to expanding vaccine access to billions through COVAX โ the progress made through international scientific cooperation is undeniable. But the fight is still ongoing, and threats like the erosion of public trust in scientific institutions, the spread of health misinformation, and the rollback of funding and international cooperation loom large.
That's why this year's theme, "Together for Health: Stand with Science," is so timely. It underscores the importance of evidence-based decision-making, trusted information, and collaboration across the global health ecosystem. From research and innovation to public health policy and patient care, science plays a critical role in shaping better outcomes.
At TogoRun, we believe that advancing health means more than raising awareness โ it means staying committed to the evidence, amplifying voices driving change, and supporting the partners working on the front lines of global health every day. Today and every day, we stand with science.
